Scottish technology supplier Ceres Holographics and materials supplier Covestro have collaborated to commercialize Bayfol HX photopolymer polycarbonate (PC) film for transparent automotive display applications. Ceres Holographics uses them to create professional solutions with customized holographic optical elements (HOE), aiming to provide a new generation of transparent display applications for automobiles and commercial vehicles. The new partnership represents the next phase of the long-term cooperation between the two companies.

Covestro’s Bayfol HX film is a transparent film with a photosensitive, self-developing photopolymer. It is ideal for the reproducible production of high-efficiency volume holograms. In the cooperation process so far, the two partners have customized the film to meet the specific requirements of the application.

This transparent display solution can realize new line-of-sight applications in automobiles and commercial vehicles, providing drivers, passengers and pedestrians with a safer and more enjoyable road experience than before, while still achieving the required quality, price level, and output. Provided by automotive original equipment manufacturers.

"For many years, Ceres Holographics has been testing how to use the unique properties of our Bayfol HX film for holographic transparent display applications, and has achieved outstanding results," said Yuen-Ling Lok, Covestro's head of commercial operations for holographic light guides. "We intend to continue working with our partners in the emerging supply chain to commercialize this film in the mobile sector. This project is another example of the increasing demand for professional solutions by customers. We are very pleased to be here. Support them during the journey."

Ceres Holographics CEO Andy Travers said: “Our partnership with Covestro allows us to deal with the need for cost-effective and easy-to-implement transparent display solutions in the automotive and commercial vehicle sectors. Strong demand. "We focus on the design, mastering and replication of thin film HOE. Our digitally processed HOE has full color and wide field of view, and provides precision-designed optical performance and functions in windshields and windows at market demand prices. "

Ceres' holographic transparent display technology has been successfully demonstrated in OEM prototypes, enabling full-color display of front, side and rear window information.

Ceres Holographics was established in St Andrews, Scotland in 2009, using its proprietary technology to design, digitally process and replicate next-generation HOEs for use in new transparent display and augmented reality head-up display systems. Relying on Covestro’s extensive knowledge of Bayfol HX photopolymer films and in-house expertise in photonics and light guides, Ceres works with partners and customers to provide optical systems with precision-designed thin-film HOEs for automotive and transportation And other mass market applications, aerospace and wearable technology.
